Amanda Cabrera is sharing a tutorial on how to make a shaker card with us for our journaling Bible using the new Illustrated Faith She Blooms collection

So unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ve probably heard of a shaker card.  But just in case you haven’t gotten the chance to see one, let me blow your mind with adorable awesomeness that you’ll instantly want to make!!  There are a few ways to make these cuties but the way that I’m going to show you today is without a fuse tool or any other fancy gadgets.

First things first, you’ll need to get your supplies together.  I’ve written out a supplies list for you below but don’t feel restrained by whats on it, let your creative mind flow!

Shaker Supplies:

-Some sort of card that you’d like to showcase

-Confetti, spangles, glitter and/or sequins

-Washi Tape

-Product Packaging!

**Ok so you may be reading that list and asking yourself…”What the heck is product packaging?!”  Well you know those little cellophane wrappers that your Illustrated Faith goodies came in?  Or maybe the packaging from your latest Target dollar spot haul?!  Well were going to put that trash to good use and save the planet or something like that!**

So, now that you’ve gotten all your supplies together, it’s time to get shakin’!  (See what I did there?)  You’ll want to place your card inside your cellophane wrapper and you can either let it move around freely or as you’ll see in the picture a little further down, you can use some double sided tape to adhere the card a little higher so your confetti mix floats around on the bottom and doesn’t cover up any of your words or image.

Next, if your packaging has some holes in it from either hanging on a peg or something similar, you’ll need to cover up those holes with some washi tape.  You don’t want all your glorious shaker fluff falling out!!

After you’ve got all your holes covered and your card inside…bring on the sparkly confetti goodness!!  Pour in until your hearts content, then fold over some of the cellophane and finish off with some washi to secure and that’s it!  You’ve created a shaker card!  Feel free to add some extra washi or stickers to the outside if you so desire.  Now pop that beauty into your bible or journal and just take all its colorful happiness in!!!

Did you stop right then and make about a million shaker cards?  I know.  I know.  The temptation was just too great wasn’t it?  No one could blame you.  A few tips that I’ve learned along the way…if the glitter is really clinging to the inside of your packaging and just not moving around freely, you can add a tiny bit of salt and it’ll free the glittery troublemakers.  Also, the Illustrated Faith and Target dollar spot pen packages make the BEST bookmarks.

And now the heart…  These cards from the “She Blooms” line really spoke to me and so when I got the sheet of them in the mail I immediately knew what I wanted to do with them.  In 2nd Corinthians 5:17 it says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, she is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  Why is this so important?  Simple, it’s everything.  It’s knowing that the person you were the moment before you accepted Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior is gone!  Dead!  Done-zo!  No more!  You are made new.  Clean.  Fresh.  White as Snow.  Lovelies, before Jesus…I was ugly.  I was wrapped up in so much darkness and self loathing.  I was searching for the answers in all the wrong places.  I was selfish and callus.  I was unhappy and ashamed.  Then Jesus.  He took someone like me, a child of addiction, using what I had physically to get what I wanted and pathetically meandering through life and set me on the tracks of redemption.  Loves, until you truly let the Lord in and take over all that sin and burden you’ve been carrying around, you’ll never feel at peace.  But once you do, you’ll be eternally free!!

I hope you’ve enjoyed making these shakers as much as I do and I cannot wait to see all the beautiful ones you’ll create!  Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram if you do post a picture of one!  I’d love to swoon over them!  I also thought that it would be really awesome to give away the 2 larger shakers that I made to one lucky lady!!  All you need to do to enter is comment below with something you’re looking forward to this spring!  Giveaway will be open until Sunday the 13th and I’ll randomly select a winner Sunday night so check back!!!

As the weather warms up and the snow and ice disappear, I hope to get outside and go for walks and do some work in my flower beds. Inside, I need to de-clutter my craft room and do some paper crafting! I look forward to trying one of your shaker cards. Thanks for all your inspiration! God Bless.

I’m looking forward to spending quality time with God and in my War room… so I can be inspired by the Holy Spirit to enjoy the Gift that very soon I’m going to receive when I made my faith tested and I won a contest to get my first journaling Bible!. I will start selecting my favorite Bible verses and making marks and sketches … to plan ahead how they will look like in the future :)

I’m looking forward to warmer weather, the smell of coconut and tropical goodness, even if it’s just a wax block that smells like I took a bath in Hawaiian tropic suntan oil, getting outside and finding creative inspiration in the limitless possibilities of God’s own artwork painted from the ground my feet stand on (or sand and waves my body lays in) all the way up to the clouds in the sky. And I also am looking forward to be randomly selected to win the shaker cards. XOXO
