mixed media hybrid printables bible journaling entry by Elaine Davis | Reading God's Handwriting

It’s no secret that there is a lot going on in our country in recent days. Places are burning, areas are flooding, hearts are hurting. A broken heart is a domino reaction. It never just affects one person. A tiny piece breaks off of someone’s life & everyone that loves that person stops. So many try to fit that chipped piece back on to their life for them, but I think we all know that only God has that power. The way our world is now, I’ve noticed that much of what we say to others is said through writing: political statements, protest signs, billboards, social media updates. God writes to us every day but His is a love letter.

I’ve never been one that dealt with crisis or dramatic change in an inspiring way. There are people that really rise to the occasion & are able to smile at the enemy’s attempts, but from my perspective, I’m the opposite. The only thing that holds me together is desperately trying to see the upside, & more often than not– it’s very hard to see. This week, I’ve gotten word of so many heartbreaks & changes: my friend’s mother losing her home, another friend’s father diagnosed with cancer, a family member’s struggle with deep hurt, incredible stress, a friend losing their job, grief, the list goes on. But I look for a signal from God that SOMEWHERE out there, things are on the upswing. This love letter from the Lord is sometimes tricky to recognize because His handwriting shows up in the most beautiful & curious ways. As I’ve been navigating the state of my heart this week, I was so relieved to see Him writing to me when I really needed to see it.

I found myself in Genesis 1. The very beginning of all existence. God gave us the things on this earth to sustain us. The plants, the animals, the seeds, the air, all the resources we needed! He freely gave to us beauty & hope & food & love. His love letter to us is provision! And He saw that it was good! (Genesis 1:29-31)

The printable set I used on this page is This Is My Father’s World by Brianna Showalter & she shared a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson  in the set that reads: “Beauty is God’s handwriting.” Everything about this is true if we’re willing to read it.
