Hybrid Print and Pray Bible Journaling | Using Collage Printables | John 3

Today is such a fun day in the Print and Pray Shop! Fall products have returned! Yay!! Every year we get to welcome previous fall releases into the Print and Pray shop for a short time. They pop into the store, and then go away into storage for the rest of the year.

If you’re new to bible journaling, it’s fun to pick up a few new (to you) products, or re-visit old “friends” if you already have a few sets! Sometimes I don’t use an entire set the first go around, so I love having another chance to play with a favorite collection. Let’s fire up our printers and have fun!

For today’s page, I’m using Elaine Davis’ set Place of Grace. It debuted last October, and my favorite part of the set is the painted collage elements. She includes a whole page of painted designs with word elements. I like to print them on clear sticker paper, and then have fun adding some mixed media supplies to the bible page before sticking them down.

Usually, I like to add paint to my page first, but a few days ago, I picked up a fun stencil at a local art supply store. This will be fun to layer pigment inks on the page with the stencil. Below, here are some supplies I’ve already picked out, plus, I’ve cut out the parts of the collage sheet that I want to use. I added a brown ink pad that’s not pictured below. Just a note, if you don’t have a stencil, blending the ink colors directly on the page is another great option.

I’m journaling today in John 3 – the story of Nicodemus. I’m so grateful that we are no longer condemned to sin, but through Jesus, death no longer has the final say!! Praise Him!! I thought this would be a perfect spot to use the “place of grace” wording.

I’m using Memento Luxe ink by Tsukineko in these colors: Morocco, Angel Pink, Dandelion, and Toffee Crunch. They are a pigment ink. Pigment ink tends to lay on top of the page and be slower drying. In contrast, dye ink pads stain the page, and will soak through the paper.

I like using sponge daubers for this, and I buy extra sponges so I don’t need to wash them – I just use the approximate matching color sponge with the ink. A stencil brush would also work.

After laying out the digital elements, I planned the ink placement around the elements. The ink will show through the stickers, which is fun and brings the whole page together. I like blending the inks here and there around the edges of the page.

Because the ink takes longer to dry, if you go over areas with another color, they will blend together. I added the Dandelion last, and it mixed with the Morocco and Angel Pink in a fun way. I love that coral color! After I positioned the printables, I thought that a heart from the newest Heart Layers kit would be so cute here. So I borrowed one from the kit! Doesn’t it look so cute?

That was such a fun and fast page. Using the ink instead of paint was a fun variation. It’s also nice that I don’t have to worry about journaling around the painted areas like I usually do (and ruining a good journaling pen!). I hope you check out the “new” fall lineup in the Print and Pray shop. Have fun creating! Here’s another shot of the completed page with journaling added. Thanks for joining me here today, friends!
