In a house full of boys most days I am just trying to survive, to make it through the day with all of them fed and clothed and educated. There are almost always messes and tears and bumps and bruises. Laughter and silliness abound as they blaze through life jumping and shouting about pretty much everything. Our days are nothing short of managed chaos. Rarely (read: never) would I describe our days as peaceful. It’s my plight as momma to these monkeys. How then, on the wildest of wild days do I keep my heart steady and my mind quiet?
Deliberate trust. (and coffee, but mostly trust.) Isaiah 26:3 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
I sometimes find myself asking the Lord to make my life peaceful and less chaotic. I want Him to lessen the load, free up my schedule, make my boys quieter in the mornings before I’ve had my coffee. But He doesn’t promise to change our circumstances. He simply asks us to lift our eyes over the crazy and catch His gaze, to set our minds on Him, That’s when the peace comes. The peace comes in knowing that His ship isn’t sinking, that His plans never fail. I tether my wandering heart to His and choose to trust.
Here’s to a peaceFULL Thursday, friends.
