Emily has been undergoing treatment for Melanoma that doctors discovered a little over a year ago. Her treatment has involved surgery, radiation, regular shots of vile medications, endless prayer. Her name has not left my prayer list since the day I first found out. Through her treatment program, she was scheduled to go in for some scans this month, & my mom was calling to tell me the results. Em had an abnormal PET scan with some questionable spots, so she will be undergoing another biopsy in January.
I’m not the kind of person that does well with this kind of news because I immediately spring into action. I want to be able to DO something. So that day mom called, I whipped open my new bible to Jeremiah 17:14 & started the 3 Ps: painting, pasting, & praying! At that moment when my heart was anxious & my friend was in need, I turned to the only thing I can 100% count on. I turned to the Almighty being from which I receive ALL of my blessings: God. There was no more pondering what the first page in my bible should be– I knew.
A few days later, Emily announced it on Facebook & wrote this post:
“Hear our prayers God! I had an abnormal PET and will be having a biopsy in January. This is a season of miracles and we are asking for our prayer warriors! My God is mighty. My God is all powerful. My God is my Father and He will carry me through. ‘Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.’ Jeremiah 17:14.”
It’s no mystery to me how that scripture spoke to her when she was writing that post because it’s the same passage I was praying over her days before! God is already working before we even begin to pray. I praise Him because He is the source of every blessing in my life. So it’s Him that I return to to give thanks & pray for comfort & relief for my friend. I pray that he brings her strength, peace, & ultimately healing in this time while she waits for the biopsy. When prayer is the only thing you can do to help, prayer is also the BEST thing you do!
