When it comes to journaling my thoughts and feelings in response to a particular Bible verse or sermon, sometimes I have a lot to say! Those 2″ margins can get filled up pretty quickly, especially when approaching it the way I typically do which is to add the title and decorations first. It occured to me that on those occasions I really should be doing it the other way around – writing out everything I want to say first and then deciding what embellishments can fit! However, I also want to remain true to who I am as a creative person and I can’t resist any opportunity to make it pretty and messy with paint and stickers and whatnot. In my video today I’m going to share my technique for tackling this dilemma. I’ve got my 6 year old daughter helping me out (she loves to join in with my bible journaling time) and together we’re going to create this page where we add the journaling first while still allowing space for decoration.

After watching your video, I may have to try the masking fluid. I noticed you didn’t gesso the page first. Do you find the watercolor bleeding through? I tried it for the first time, used gesso and it still bleed. maybe I used too much water. By the way, I loved hearing your daughter in the video-precious.
