Proverbs 31: 8-9 | Janel is sharing with us her heart to speak up for those who can't

Good Morning Friends,

This page is one that I did about a month ago but it’s one that I like to keep coming back to.  One thing that I have always been passionate about is helping others. This passion is why I teach, and why I live for mission work. I also have a a big passion for civil rights and like to think that I would have been marching along side Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. if I were alive during his time.

For those of you who don’t know, I live in St. Louis, about 10 minutes away from Ferguson.  Last year, when the Mike Brown situation happened, we had a guest pastor come to our church from Ferguson.  He preached a sermon on this passage:

“Open your mouth for the mute,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
 Open your mouth, judge righteously,
defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Proverbs 31:8-9

This is what Jesus did for us.  He not only lived for us friends, He died for us as well.  He defended us, and still defends us in our sin-stained state.  Here, He has called us to plead for those who can not plead for themselves. He calls us to stand up for others.  My man Martin said it so eloquently, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Proverbs 31: 8-9 | Janel is sharing with us her heart to speak up for those who can't

What are you doing to defend the rights of those who can’t defend themselves?  What are you doing to speak up for what you know is right, and true in Our Father’s Eyes?

My prayer for myself is to live out these truths daily.  I want to be an example of the Proverbs 31 woman.  Praise God for leaving me His Word, with clear directions on how He would like me to live.

Hey, found your post while looking for commentary on proverbs 31:8.
I think Dr. King might have said something like what you quoted, but this is possibly one of those times where the internet invented the words:

    Did appreciate your commentary, though.
