Seventy times seven. Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven (Matthew 18:21-22). When I think about this scripture I think about grace upon grace. The point is not to count the times that we forgive but to always be willing to forgive.
This scripture is such a great reminder when things go off course in our lives. It seems so simple, but once we are faced with showing real forgiveness to others, it can be a lot easier said than done. It’s okay to say, “God, I don’t feel like I can forgive, but I’m asking you to give me the grace and strength to do it!” And then, pray about it.
I journaled this in my praise binder as a reminder of what God did for us and why we should forgive others. I feel like I’m always asking for forgiveness… I’m breathing. I need to remember Peter during these times and the ability to offer forgiveness over and over, just as God forgives us over and over.
