digital hybrid mixed media bible journaling | Teen Topic with Abigail Clone: Shining through Confidence!

To encourage the younger members of the Journaling Bible community, each month we will be taking a peek inside the Bible of Abigail Clone!  Abigail is an energetic, artistic, & faithful 15-year-old sweetie that loves illustrating her faith & sharing the Word with others! She will be sharing projects created around common struggles that teens encounter at school & in their daily lives. With this, we hope to encourage young girls (& boys!) to get into their Bibles & share the lessons from the Bible with their friends & family while expressing themselves artistically.

Confidence. Confidence. Confidence. This word has so much meaning to me and when you think about it, a huge meaning just by itself. As a teenager I think most of us struggle with self-confidence.  I did, and it took me a while to figure it out too until someone pointed it out.

I had always been a quiet kid. I never really spoke up in class, hated presenting projects, and didn’t really like to make new friends. My teacher noticed that about me in 7th grade and pointed it out to me. I had never heard anyone tell me that I needed to LEAD. People told me that I was shy but that didn’t really hit me because a lot of people are told they are shy.

That next year I went back and told my teacher that I wanted to work on being more confident. I wanted to show people who I really was. I wanted to work on being more energetic and outgoing and wanted to be that person who could go up to someone the first time you see them and ask what their name is. After I told him I wanted to be more confident, the main thing he told me was to not worry about what other people think. You can’t control their judgements and really they are probably focusing more on themselves anyway. No one should worry about getting the answers wrong in class, or worry about standing up and sharing a presentation. We shouldn’t worry about this because God is with us! He has our backs, just like Deuteronomy 31:6 says-

“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”

For this page I focused on shining because if we have confidence we can totally SHINE! I used one of the Beloved Society hymnal girls from the “My Nannie’s Songs” devotional set to show that we are all individuals and can all shine. I also put some paint on and old gift card and scraped it out from under the girl so it would look like rays. The last thing I did was add some sparkly embellishments and journaling at the bottom about how God is always with us!

If we can trust in God, then our confidence level should be at the very top! ;) Our light should be so BRIGHT if we are confident! Next time you’re in school and want to answer a question, or you’re at work and have to share a presentation you are worried about, remember to stay confident & remember God is with you! He will help you shine your light bright!
