hybrid mixed media prayer journal entry by Elaine Davis

Hey pretty people! I’m here today on the blog sharing a little peek into my prayer journal! How many of you keep a prayer journal? I’m attached at the hip to mine. It lives in my traveler’s notebook & comes with me everywhere I go. I don’t document EVERY prayer I pray in it because I pray all the time & that would get crazy. BUT I create pages for prayers that seem especially important to me, prayers that I just feel deserve a page, or prayers for fun. :) I also don’t post all of the pages from it online. Some of them are incredibly personal. Also, fun fact: every page starts with the words “Hey God.” (Which means I run out of Gs, Os & Ys really quickly from my alpha stickers. haha)

This past week I came home from a trip & I’ve been having a hard time getting back into my normal routine & workflow, which is out of character for me. I’m having a hard time focusing, staying on task, & prioritizing. Seriously so unlike me. I’ve been praying each day for God to get me back on track & give me my hustle back. I thought that creating a page in my prayer journal with some inspiring quotes & bright colors might trigger something in my brain to get me going again!

Leah Schumacher from the Better Together Artist Collab Team submitted a digital set called Hustle Hustle into the store this month that really revolves around getting things done & gaining motivation from the Lord. I especially loved the little paper piece I used in the lower right corner that reads:

“Today, Jesus is working in me. Today Satan’s got nothin’ on me. Today I am free to be me.”

And oh how important that is! As you might know, my job is working for Illustrated Faith managing the Print & Pray Shop, doing graphic design for online classes & products, being involved in the community, etc. So of course Satan would be behind this unproductive streak I’ve been on! Why didn’t I see it before!? It really took me creating a page in my prayer journal with printables, stickers, & paint to realize that I need to take charge & give Satan the one-two punch. I can’t stress enough how therapeutic it is to keep a journal & how much it helps you see your circumstances differently.

This page was incredibly simple too! I used some Faber-Castell Big Brush pens to give the Illustrated Faith Big & Bold sticker alphas a fun treatment. (SO easy! See Shanna’s video on personalizing your white sticker alphas on the Bella Blvd blog here!) Then I just put down a little paint, a few bits of washi, a couple paper pieces from the printable. Then I gave myself the freedom to fill in the rest of the white space with my prayer & thoughts! It doesn’t have to be complicated to be a defining force in your spiritual journal.

Who else out there has trouble motivating? We all have spurts of time in our lives where we feel like we’re in a funk. Where Satan is holding the back of our collar as we try to move forward. We need to be leaning on prayer to bring this to light! Don’t let Satan win! Get your hustle on, girl!

LOVE this prayer journal entry. I just jot down my prayers in my planner, but should make a prayer journal. Love all the playful colors of your journal.

Beautiful layout and beautiful message, too. Even though I work outside the home, the summer routine/schedule is a little slower paced and I’m finding myself having a hard time getting back into the hustle and bustle of the school year – your blog today was perfect for how I’ve been feeling! And – on an artistic note, I’d love to hear a little more about those big brush pens and how you use them!
