hybrid Bible journaling entry by Elaine Davis using acrylic paint and digital printables | What Makes a God Girl?: Proverbs 31

Hiya all you God Girls (& Guys)! Are y’all doing anything creative today!? I’ve been in my Bible ALL WEEK & have been going paint & cut-apart crazy! I’ve been trying to get some ideas out on my Bibles pages: things I’ve been praying about, questions on my heart, passages that have been stuck in my head, etc. Proverbs 31 has been at the top of that list. I just love the part about The Woman Who Fears the Lord in verses 10-31. Have you taken time to read about the Proverbs 31 woman? She’s incredible.

I always refer to the members of this community as “God Girls” because we’re all worshipping together & supporting one another through scripture each day! We’re crazy about God & Jesus & are spreading His good news!!! But is that all that makes up a true God Girl? I think the Proverbs 31 woman is the perfect example of what a Christian woman (or a God Girl!) should strive to emulate. Reading through the passage, it describes what this steadfast woman of the Lord looks like. You stumble over traits like:

  • precious
  • trustworthy
  • good
  • strong
  • generous
  • loving
  • dignified
  • wise
  • blessed
  • praiseworthy

But guess what else, ladies? The Proverbs 31 woman is also creative! Proverbs 31 tells us:

“She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.” (31:13)

“She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.” (31:22)

“She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant.” (31:24)

This is all evidence that, as women, we were born to create & make & work with willing hands. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we should spend all of our time paper crafting, but the scripture encourages women of God to make something. Create clothing & home furnishings to build a household, cook delicious meals, be ambitious & use our gifts to provide for our families! Clothe them, warm them, feed them, nurture them, preserve their memories.

I read over verses 10-31 several times & just started documenting the traits to embrace to become more like the Proverbs 31 woman. Jess Robyn’s digital set Overflowing with Grace is just perfect for these passages! I think I pulled almost every faith based stamp set I own in order to stamp all these traits on this page. HA! But now when I flip to this chapter in Proverbs, the key attributes of this strong God Girl are there in bold for me to see.

We may not be exactly like this woman yet, but we’re definitely on the right track. With willing hands I’ll keep living & working to be a daughter our King can be proud to call His own!
