I wrote my first book at six years old. I’m pretty sure it was called “Miss BumbleBee’s Great Adventure” where my stuffed bumblebee was the star of the story. From an early age I had a love for story telling, beautiful phrases, and happily ever afters. I wrote my second book in the sixth grade with my best friend, and we spent hours agonizing over character names, plot twists, and creating the perfect guys for our leading ladies. Those 116 pages still sit safely in their place on my desk, a reminder of that heart dream of mine.

Somewhere along the way, I started trying to write my own story. I made a plan, mapped out my timeline, and even wrote down a list of features I wanted to find in my future love. All that was left was to tie it up with a bow and hand it to God. See? I’d done all the hard work and came up with a great plan. Now all He had to do was make it happen, right?

You’re probably raising an eyebrow and grinning at me right know, knowing full well that that’s not how things work. Believe me, I know. But by golly I reach for the pen of my story again and again, trying to write it in the way want it. However, I forget that one of my favorite parts of writing is creating the plot twists.

Plot twists: those unexpected things that, sometimes, send my characters in a panic, only for something beautiful to come out in the end. In the moment, they can’t see the end, the reason why, or the ultimate purpose, but when it comes it is a glorious moment.

God sees the big picture. He sees every twist, every turn, every character we will encounter, and every challenge we will face. Some of it He ordains to happen. Some of it He allows to happen. But no matter what comes our way, He is the Author and Perfector, and our story is safe in His hands.

As perfect as I think my plans might be, I want to rest confident in the fact that He sees, knows, hears, and carries ALL. Including me. Including my story. And I want Him to write it however He sees fit.
