mixed media art journal entry for anxiety and worry inspired by the song Sparrows by Jason Gray | Matthew 6:25-34 | Illustrated Faith Praise Book by Bella Blvd | Heather Greenwood

Hello Hello friends!!!

Last time I shared about how music lyrics have helped me with my PTSD and anxiety and today I have a follow up to that post and I’m excited to share it with you. The Sunday following that post, my church started a new sermon series and my pastor told me ahead of time what it was going to be about after I had told him about my PTSD event. I have to say that I haven’t been more excited about going to church since he told me. The series is called “Losing Control” and each week for four weeks will focus on some emotions that can make us lose control. What I’m learning is that I need to lose control, my own trying to control them, in order to let God take over and gain freedom from them — Lose control and give that control to God.

This first Sunday was on “worry”. My first reaction was, WOW GOD, THANK YOU!!! I totally laughed out loud actually and said to myself, could this be any more perfect timing for me?

The Passage my pastor focused on was Matthew 6: 25-34.

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

I love how in just this tiny little passage we are commanded three times not to worry or be anxious… I totally laugh that I have to be reminded of this command so many times and that I’m not alone and all throughout the Bible God says not to worry or be afraid or be anxious… like seriously… when will be get it through our heads?

Again, God and his amazing timing made me listen to the lyrics to a song rather than just listen to the catchy tune… I swear this song was written just for me LOL. I knew instantly the art journal page I wanted to do and right next to the previous one.

I’ve been taking an abstract floral workshop and I thought it would be fun to try some of the techniques on this page. It was so much fun to add layers and layers of paint for the background, stamp the birds, and then paint branches and leaves around them so that all you can see is the background in the birds. I then added fun stickers to create the title and finish it up. I think this might be my favorite art journal page ever!

Do you ever feel like God’s trying to ingrain something in your brain over and over and over and over again? I totally feel like He’s knocking on my head and asking me, “Are you in there, can you hear me?” I think I’m finally hearing you, my sweet Father!!!

Blessings,
Heather
