Christmas is approaching in just a few days and this whole season is just so much fun. I love Christmas and I already can’t wait until next Christmas! I’m kind of sad that it’s all almost over! Sure, there’s the usual holiday stress, and somehow I decided to go to two Christmas parties in one night (twice the fun). My neighbors have all gotten in the spirit and there’s giant snowmen, reindeer and whirling snowflake light displays all along the street. There’s so much to love about the season: the red coffee cups, the weird Christmas geese at the mall, and the people who attach the reindeer antlers and red noses to their cars.
I remember going to church as a kid and hearing sermons about keeping the Christmas spirit and excitement alive all year long. This really stood out to me because keeping that Christmas sparkle in my heart all year seemed so daunting.
Recently, I was reading in Matthew 1 about how when Jesus was born he was to be called Immanuel, which means God with us. God with us! I picked up a commentary to get a little extra depth to my study, and it pointed out that Jesus certainly came to earth to save us, but also so that we can live in a personal relationship with Him. Spending each day with Jesus. Day by day, God with us. God with us, here, today, now. Not just God with us when he was born on earth, but Jesus here, now.
I had never thought about it that way! Since I’ve started bible journaling, I’ve been spending so much more time with Jesus and it’s so true. When I take the time to draw near, He is close. I can have joy in knowing that I can spend every day with Jesus, not just those special Christmastime sparkly days. Day by day, God with us! Be near me, Lord Jesus!
Thank you for hanging out with me here, today! <3, Cristin
