Elaine's traveling kit for illustrating her faith on the plane | traveler's notebook

Believe it or not, I’ve become QUITE the little jet setter this spring! I’ve had SO many little trips & weekend getaways & conferences that I’ve had to get PRETTY creative about bible journaling while I travel. In particular, I had a trip a couple weekends ago that involved 2 flights. I’m not really the kind of girl that can sleep on a plane, so I figured I would make good use of my time in the air & illustrate my faith in my 2016 prayer journal! If you’re anything like me, you want to take #allthethings when you travel & try to cram as many supplies as you can into your travel kit. But I had to think about how much room I had in my carry-on, leaving out items that aren’t allowed on planes, & how much space I would have to journal while on the flight. (Those tray tables are tiny, people!)

I know a few other CT members have shared their travel kits in the past, but who doesn’t love seeing what’s in someone’s bag? haha So I put together an especially compact kit of some super essentials to take on my flight using my WOW GOD canvas pouch from Dayspring. It was the perfect size to fill with some creative travel essentials & slide right in my carry-on bag along with my fauxdori traveler’s notebook.

So here’s what I took along for the trip:

black ink pad  |  acrylic block  |  rotary date stamp  |  glue stick  |  mini stapler  |  clear stamp set  |  enamel hearts  |  paper doilies  |  printables |  a few sticker sheets  |  a few sheets of alphas  |  card with some washi tape samples on it  |  a black pen

That’s it! That’s MORE than enough supplies to do something creative while on a plane and everything in that bag was TSA friendly! I could have definitely fit more product in that pouch too, but that’s all I really needed. Here’s a shot of me & the other girls on my trip doing some creating on our plane. The flight attendant stopped & talked to us about it & I was able to share my testimony & all about Illustrated Faith with her! You never know when you’ll have a chance to be a witness to someone!

I created a pretty adorable page in my prayer journal just praying over the flight & asking God to protect our plane & guide the pilot. :) It’s so important to do some focused prayer while you’re traveling & out of your comfort zone. It’s easy for us to get out of our normal routine & let prayer go by the wayside. But there’s always a way to make time to talk to God!

One of the biggest misconceptions of those just starting to illustrate their faith is that you need a LOT of supplies, but that’s not true. You can do SO much with SO little supplies & the end result is the same. :) Working in my prayer journal is one of my favorite things to do on trips because it’s compact & gives me a challenge to use what’s in front of me. Journaling is very good for the soul!

If you’re traveling this spring or summer, consider doing a little creating on your flight! Just be sure to check the TSA List of Prohibited Items! We don’t want you little crafters getting in trouble! So leave your scissors & spray inks at home! ;)

Travel safe!

<3 Elaine

    perfect!!
I just returned from a trip with limited baggage, so I just took waterbrushes, inktense pencils, journal, pencil and pens. On the trip I found a polymer alpha stamp set I’ve been wanting, so I snagged it, a 1″ cube stamp pad and a roll of washi.
It was just what I needed to make it through the trip and journal my prayers and Scripture! But – your list!! love!! Will definitely consult for my next trip! Thanks Elaine!

Great post today! As a heads up, you can take school-sized, blunt-tipped ‘safety’ scissors on the plane with you. I do it all the time ?

Good to know! I knew you could take some if the blade was less than 4″ long or something like that, but I didn’t want to risk getting them taken away at security. hahaha It was a fun challenge to go without them! :D
