mixed media art journaling in an Illustrated Faith song journal about friendship and talking to God and his love - by Stephanie Buice

Hello! I hope everyone is having a great week so far and loving the new website, I like how everything feels so new and fresh! I am really excited about all the new gadgets and the message board, I’m hoping to have more free time this weekend to browse around a bit more.

Today I am sharing a page I recently did in my song journal. This week my best friend was put in the hospital and it was scary. Although my first instinct was to be upset with God, after a few minutes of calming down I realized that He was in control. He is always in control. I had a choice to make in that instance, I could continue to be upset with Him, question, cry, and give Him the stink eye; or I could pray. I decided to pray and trust, and instead of crying because I was upset with Him, I cried to Him. I gave the situation over to Him and felt peace.

I walked into my office and turned on some music. The second song from my playlist was this song by City Harbor called “Your Love Still Wins”. Right then and there in the middle of my messy room with papers and paints spread out everywhere, me and God had a moment and this page was born.

The lyrics of this strong are very powerful, and right then it was like they were talking right to me. “whatever comes in my life, your love still wins.” I almost felt a little ashamed about the anger I felt towards God, I know He has a reason for everything even though I’m usually oblivious.

I could have written down the entire song for this page, but decided to stick with the ones that were most relevant to this day. ” you never said you’d keep us from heartache, but I know you’ve been where we stand.” This is so true. He doesn’t promise us no heart ache, but He has been there and He promises to never leave us alone in our trials.

I drew some flowers and a few leaves to cut out and paint, then added them to the corner of my page.

I also decided to use this card from one of the Illustrated Faith printables that says “Grow a Heart full of thanks”. Although I was not feeling all that thankful at the time for my friend being sick, I was very thankful that I had God to lean on. He’s good like that!

The back ground of my page was made out of one of my “scratch papers”. I used some watercolor paints to add a few more to make the paint strokes come together. After I added my journaling I finished off my page with a few enamels and stamped the date.

Does music ever get you through tough trials? I’d love to hear which songs are your favorites for times like these, so let me know in the comments if you want so I can give them a listen. Have a great day everyone!

Strong Enough by Matthew West, Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns, and Overcomer by Mandisa are all songs that God has played in my life over and over again during hard times. They are definitely some of my life songs.
