Last weekend my husband and I had the opportunity to sneak away to celebrate our wedding anniversary (thank you, grandparents!) On the Sunday morning of our trip we got to worship with our extended church family. At one point, it became difficult for me to follow along with the sermon because I noticed a woman who was visibly upset. My heart hurt for her and I thought, maybe I should approach her after the service. At the same time, I didn’t want to be that weirdo visitor and kept thinking of reasons it was best to give her space.
I snapped back to attention as the pastor started getting louder and he said, “you either need the touch of Jesus or you need to be the touch of Jesus”. It didn’t seem relevant to his message (but then again I was zoning in and out!) I understood it to be confirmation that, yes Jill, you go talk to that woman.
I love journaling a good God wink in my bible! It’s my way of documenting how I’ve perceived the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE at work. Is there anything better?! There wasn’t a verse given at that point in his message, so I chose to create this entry in John 13:34-35 where Jesus says to his disciples,
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
How cute is this pink scooter with its basket full of hearts?! I used it here to illustrate the idea of traveling around with so much love you just can’t keep it to yourself. It spills over, out of the basket wherever you go. We may not be zipping around on scooters, but the world will recognize us as Christ’s when we love others.
My husband and I did get to chat with that woman and her husband. It wasn’t a soul-baring conversation, but they were sweet and we had plenty in common! My prayer for us today is that we would notice those who need us to be the touch of Jesus <3
