“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Today I want to talk about Spiritual Gifts and Parenting with encouragement.

You have been assigned a spirit in which to worship. Your gift could be prayer, prophesy, hospitality or a list of others. Once you know your passion you can know how to best serve God and worship Him in your Spirit and His Truth. He has blessed you with these passions so you can contribute to His Kingdom. For me, this is what it means to worship in “Spirit and Truth”.

These verses always lead me directly back to Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Parents – this verse isn’t about discipline and rules. It is meant for us to help our children discover their gifts and teach them the importance of using them for the Glory of God.

Do you know your Spiritual Gift(s)? If you are unsure, I encourage you to pray about it. For me, my main gift is helping to lead worship in the Praise Band as a vocalist. It is a great privilege that I take very seriously. I am blessed that my parents and my church helped to nurture my gift so that I could use it to grow in my Spiritual Journey. It is my greatest desire to use my gifts to glorify the Lord.

My sweet little girl already journaled this page in my Bible so today as I was praying I decided to add my prayer to a tag that I can use as a bookmark on this page. This would also be a great tip-in or an easy little project to add to your prayer journal. Since I have 2 children the little nest on the “Set Free” Stamp Set was perfect for me. I pray that God will lead me to know and understand my children as He does and that I will be able to encourage them to use their passions – the very core of who they are –  to glorify God and build His Kingdom.
