I’m so grateful for God’s timing! I’ve been reading the Bible from cover to cover, and Luke was such a refreshing book of the Bible to end 2015 with. Let me take you all the way back to last year (two weeks ago), when I read in Luke chapter 23.
Luke 23:34 says, “But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”” Isn’t in amazing that even in the midst of HIS suffering for OUR sins, He still calls out for sinners’ forgiveness? No matter what we do — no matter what we say, no matter where we are in our faith-walk, no matter how often we lose our patience or feel like we’re losing our minds — no matter how lost and broken we may feel, we can still turn to Him. No matter what, HE STILL CARES.
My study Bible says, “This is the nature of God’s unconditional love — no matter what we do, He still cares and bids us to return to Him. This is also the standard He calls us to. No matter what others do, we must imitate His example of forgiveness.”
How often, in the midst of your suffering, have you thought of the source of your suffering and been overcome with love and forgiveness? How often, in the midst of your sacrifice of time, resources, and energy, have you stopped and considered the great impact your sacrifice is making for the Kingdom? Sometimes it’s hard to shift focus, isn’t it?
Thank God that it’s His grace that saves us, and not our own strength or goodness!
With the help of the Holy Spirit, let’s shift our focus for the rest of this week, and for the rest of this year! Let’s remember to imitate the examples of love and compassion Christ shows us, and the forgiveness and grace God offers.
