mixed media tutorial - devotional preparations by Heather Greenwood | Christmas | Advent | stamping, acrylic paint, paper crafting, traveler's notebook, devotional, journaling, art journaling, Bible journaling, Illustrated Faith, Bella Blvd, Dayspring

Can you believe it’s the end of November already and tomorrow we start going through the 25 day Advent devotional, ‘Tis The Season? This is such a busy time of year for us and I want to focus as much time on Jesus as I can. One of the things I’ve learned in the past is to prepare my devotionals ahead of time so I’m not so focused on crafting and can focus just on being in the presence of God during this season. First I gathered all of my supplies, I’m using not only the devotional kit, but items from the Illustrated Faith CHRISTmas collection by Bella Blvd, as well as some additional supplies.mixed media tutorial - devotional preparations by Heather Greenwood | Christmas | Advent | stamping, acrylic paint, paper crafting, traveler's notebook, devotional, journaling, art journaling, Bible journaling, Illustrated Faith, Bella Blvd, Dayspring

1. The first thing I did was start scraping on paint using a paint card and different colors of acrylic paint. I used a light pink first, then using the corner of the card scraped smaller sections and then I always like to finish off with some white.

2. Then I like to grab some washi tape and start adding it to edges and open areas as a decorative background.

3. Next, I like to add more texture to the background and the “Elements” stamp set is so perfect for that. I like to use 2-3 different stamps several times and in different colors around the background.

4. After I’ve created the background I will add some paper pieces, tabs and other assorted elements.

5. Lastly, I draw in some journaling lines.

After I finish up decorating all the pages, I don’t have to worry about falling behind or trying to catch up when I get busy. It also makes it easier to travel with that last week before Christmas. I can just pack a pen, my date roller, ink, and maybe a few leftover paper pieces and tabbies to finish it up.

I can’t wait to see your Bible journaling and devotional art journaling this month! I’m looking forward to focusing on the WORD becoming flesh and dwelling on earth for such an amazing and loving purpose. I am praying for each of you going through this devotional, celebrating the Advent season.

I love this idea Heather, and the pages look awesome already! Will you do similar all throughout the booklet, or maybe a different look for each word set?! Thanks for sharing!

    Beautiful!

Great idea. I know I won’t have time to do a lot of artsy things everyday. I like how this would allow you to focus on the content day to day. I like how you get a unified look this way too.

In the top picture, I see you have the devotional in the canvas travelers notebook. How did you get it to stay in there? Or is it just resting there for photo staging purposes? I’ve been carrying my gratitude devo around in my notebook but it isn’t attached and I’m afraid I’m going to lose it. Thanks!

Wonderful idea! I love the cohesive look you have going on.
I’m definitely going to give this a try. I think this approach will really, really help me. Thank you so much for sharing this tutorial. :)
