Bailey Jean Robert shares about the importance of finishing her last six weeks o f college strong and not pulling up roots and documenting it in her Journaling Bible | Hebrews 12:1-2

I am a lover of new beginnings. You know that verse in Zechariah 4 that says “Do not despise small beginnings…”  That’s my jam. I LOVE beginnings, big or small! Give me a January 1st, a Monday to-do list, and a blank piece of paper and I’m your girl.

However, the thing is I’m usually one to try to leap over an ending to jump straight to a beginning. I get the vision, I start daydreaming, and BAM! I want to drop everything else to be there. Can’t we fast forward? Pretty please?

I am in one of those seasons right now. Graduation is six weeks away (but who’s counting?) and I am R-E-A-D-Y for the next thing. I want to be in my new apartment, in my new job, dressed in new clothes, launching into a new season. But I have six weeks here. SIX WEEKS of work left to do, and SIX WEEKS worth of roots to put down.

It’s usually around this time that I start pulling up the roots. Slowly but surely I back away from friendships, commitments, and routines made in whatever city or season I’m about to leave. It feels easier. Safer. It’s a defense mechanism. But it’s me trying to be in control instead of trusting the Lord to cover me in the transition.

This time around I’m determined to FINISH STRONG. I want to keep putting roots down deep in friendships and my life here, trusting that God will make the move peaceful and smooth when the time comes. I don’t want to miss a second of what He’s doing. I want to keep running the race with my whole heart.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
