As a child, my mother would read us stories of missionaries and other brave Christian men and women who gave everything for Christ.

Some lost their family or their land, and others lost limbs, eyesight or speech.

And some gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life.

At the end of every story, my mother would ask us questions, and almost always, she would ask, “What is the greatest treasure that no man can take away from you?”

As a child, I would think of the impossible things that someone could take like, the sky or the ocean.

But I quickly learned that those things could be taken away, people were placed underground and behind bars never to see daylight again until they took their last breath and would see the light of The Son.

I would also learn that the treasure that can never be taken away is God’s word when we memorize it and hide it away in our hearts.

Like the saints before us, in their darkest hour, they would sing scripture as hymns to encourage one another, they would pray memorized scripture, and they would use the treasure hidden within their hearts to witness to the very guards torturing them.

What hope they must have felt knowing they were never truly alone because they had the Living Word inside of them!

Friends, the Bible tells us that if we seek God, He will give us wisdom and that we should store that wisdom in our hearts like a hidden treasure that is more precious than gold or silver.

Should something happen where you could never again touch or see a Bible, is your heart ready to withstand the journey before you, are you equipped to sing hymns and praises to God while in chains? What about witnessing to the very person who took it all away?

If your answer is no, then friends I beg you, its not too late to stop and ask God to open your mind to receive His word and be able to hide it in your heart today.

Perhaps it’s one single verse that stood out to you in your morning reading, or maybe it’s your favorite book of The Bible!

Whatever it is, I hope you will start filling your treasure chest today.
